Receiving a Kingdom

In a time of uncertainty and world shaking, Hebrews 12:28 reports good news: that we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved. This is in the present tense! While the kingdoms of this world are in disarray, Christians can be strong, standing on the Rock.

Instead, Christians have a tendency to get shaken just like the rest of the world. Sometimes this is because they don't consider the truth that the Kingdom is something they may receive now and not just later.

If you are receiving a Kingdom, that means you are totally blessed! Pagan kings would grant petitions with the phrase, "anything you want, up to half the kingdom!" But Jesus said, it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Not just half, but the whole thing! So the first step is believing that you are blessed and privileged, in spite of all the circumstances of this world that may be suggesting otherwise. The truth is that God's children are royalty.

That will be manifested clearly when Jesus returns. In the meantime, the kingdom of God is within you (Luke 17:21). Some translations say, "in your midst," or "among you." Either way seems correct. We are ambassadors of Christ, and where ever we go, we carry His Kingdom. In His kingdom, there is no sickness, no poverty, no anxiety or depression. There is no corruption! Though we don't always see it, it is in us and God desires to bring it out now and not just later- or else we wouldn't have been taught to pray, "Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven" (Matthew 6:10).

So believe that you are blessed, and believe that God wants to manifest His kingdom through you on earth as it is in heaven. When the shaking comes, stand your ground! David wrote, I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved (Psalm 16:8). This means get your focus straight. All too often we set our circumstances before us. We set our worries before us. It takes some quiet time and real resolve to keep the Lord Jesus first before us- to get our perspective back to His perspective, and to be strengthened in the inner man as we consciously believe and receive His love. It is more than an acknowledgement. It is determination in the things of the Lord until it becomes the defining factor in your life. It becomes who you are.

You receive by tuning in- much like a radio receiver. You tune in to what the Word of God says, accept it as the truth, and then live by it. If it says you've got it, quit trying to get it. Start saying, "Thank you Jesus!" That is faith.

You are a child of the Most High God, and He loves you beyond what you can imagine! You don't work for it or earn it, you simply receive- and He throws in a glorious and eternal Kingdom along with it! Now if we have received, we can go out and give. As ambassadors of God's kingdom, we become beacons of hope to those around us. The world is not so interested in religion, but everyone is dying for genuine love.
